Hey Ya'll,
My DH & I just returned from a walk in our neighborhood. I hate to admit it, but it is getting a bit easier to walk. I wasn't in as much pain, so I doubled our walk tonight! The part I like about walking outdoors this time of year is getting to check out everyone's Christmas lights & decorations. In case you forgot, I love Christmas decorations & lights! The more the better. I am even considering walking the opposite direction to check out the homes that way too. Which if we went the long way around, back to our house, it would just about quadruple our walk so far. But I am hoping that before the end of the Christmas season, I will be able to do it.
Earlier tonight I was watching a couple of shows on TLC channel which was very sad. The first one was the Half-Ton Mom. She was about 850 lbs & was finally given the ok for Gastric Bypass Surgery by the Surgeons as they usually won't do the Surgery if you are over 400 lbs (I think it was). She made it through the Surgery only to die about 2 wks later. It was sooo sad, she really wanted to get her life back together (she was overweight her entire life) so she could be around for her two daughters.
The second show was called the Half-Ton Teen. It focused mostly on one young man who was 19 yrs old, but it also showcased two other teens around 13-18 yrs old as well. The boy they showed the least of, died during the filming. Two of the boys was about 850 lbs & the other one was about 1000 lbs. The 1000 lb boy is the one that died at age 18, sooo sad!
But the worst part is, the other two boys fought the weight loss tooth & nail. They didn't want to eat the proper diet or exercise. At the end of the program, one was still fighting the weight loss & the other finally seemed to come to the realization that if he didn't follow his Doctor's orders, he would lose him as his Doctor, & agreed to go into a Rehabilitation Center for a couple of months to continue learning how to eat & exercise, as his Mother was an enabler big time! By the end of the show, he had lost about 400 lbs! Anyway, just thought that it was interesting.
I have an Aunt that was probably somewhere between 400-500 lbs the last time I saw her. I haven't seen her in about 30 yrs, but I haven't heard of her dying so I can only hope that she finally got some help. I will have to remember to ask my Mom next time I speak with her.
Well tonight, after getting back from our walk, I convinced my DH to bring down my Christmas decorations. So, hopefully I will have them up within a few days. Tomorrow, we have to drive back over the Sierra's to Reno for my after Surgery Check Up. Wish me luck that the Doctor is happy with my weight loss so far & doesn't yell at me for eating what I wasn't supposed to so early. :( Anyway, I will let you know.
Well again, I am sure that I had intended to say more, but for the life of me, I can't remember!! Like I said before, it is hell getting old, or as Garth Brooks said in one of his songs "I'm much too young to feel this damned old"!! I am hoping that once I start losing a lot of weight, I can start going off some of the drugs that can wreak havoc with my memory!! But somehow I doubt just dropping some of the meds will be enough! Anyway, hope everyone had a great weekend!

The Enforcer!! Plus TMI Questions :)
Hey Ya'll,
Am I the only one that has an ENFORCER for a significant other? My DH watches me like a hawk! He always has. Even when I wasn't on a diet, he would say things like, "do you really need to eat that much?", or "you should only be eating half of what I eat at most." Since the Surgery, if he thinks I am taking bites that are too large, or eating too fast, he is immediately on me to slow down or eat smaller bites, etc!! I know that this is a good thing (but hate being told so! :)). Especially when the restriction starts happening. Right now, I don't really have any restriction to speak of, so unless I am eating too fast, or too much, I really haven't had any problems yet. But in the long run, I will be happy for his help I am sure. I was just curious if your husbands or boyfriends did this too?
WARNING! WARNING! TMI information being talked about or requested!!
Now, something that I have noticed in many of the blogs I read. Many of you talk about burping a lot once you were banded. Did it start immediately? Or after you started having restriction? I am curious because so far, I haven't had any burping episodes.
Another common complaint in the blogs is, (I don't know a polite way to say it) flatulence (passing gas, farting, etc). Again, did it start immediately? Or after restriction? I ask this because I have always been gassy & so far, I haven't noticed anything more than normal, except for the first couple of days after Surgery.
Maybe this is why I didn't have the gas pains after Surgery, I wasn't afraid to let it out so to speak. :) I am sure the Nurses weren't happy to have to walk into my room!! LOL. But the Nurse did ask me if I had any gas pains the morning after Surgery, & I told her no, but that I was passing gas regularly, & she said that was great! She said that most patients are afraid to release it in an environment where someone could be coming in at any time! And since the first few days, I haven't noticed being more gassy than normal. So I'm thinking this might be something that picks up later after restriction? Or is it because many eat a lot of beans for the protein? Just curious if it is still to come or due to what ever I choose to eat in the future.
Well, I think I am done asking the embarrassing questions for now! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Whew!! :)
Hey Ya'll,
Welcome back from Turkey Day! Hope everyone had a great one with family & friends. As I said yesterday, I ended up not being able to make it to my parents house yesterday as I had planned, since our company started arriving earlier than originally expected. Plus I got up way late since I didn't get to sleep until about 4 am!
So today, after waking up (I didn't get to sleep last night until about 3 am), my DH & I went over to spend some time with them & had a great time. My Nieces Son, Charlie (7) who lives with them was spending the weekend with his other Grandma, so we were able to actually sit down & have a good talk for a few hours. It is always nice when we can be alone with them. Neither of my parents are doing very well, & I am always concerned that this might be the last Holiday we get to spend with them. I would have taken my camera but they really hate getting their picture taken. Hopefully, they will be able to be here for Christmas. I will for sure get a few pictures then, for any family members who might be reading from out of state!
I had so much that I wanted to say today, but for the life of me, I can't remember them! Let me tell you, it is hell getting old sometimes!! LOL Well, since I can't remember anything else I wanted to say, I will get off for now. If I remember later, I will post it later!!

Did Everyone Have A Great Thanksgiving??
Hey Ya'll,
In case you didn't notice, I changed up the colors in my blog in honor of the Christmas spirit! I love Christmas!! Let me know if the colors are too loud or hard to read. I know that some colors don't mesh well & can hurt the eyes to look at too long!
Well, the day started out slow, but gained momentum throughout the day. I had originally planned on going to my parents house to visit for a while as they were not up to coming to our house. Unfortunately, since we had agreed to have Thanksgiving Dinner at our house for Walt's side of the family & some friends, we couldn't just leave.
However, like I said, I had intended to go visit my parents early, then come back in time for our guests. But, things just didn't work out as planned. For some reason unknown, I just could not get to sleep last night! It was 4 am before I managed to get to sleep, so I got a late start, & before I could finish & get over there, our guests started to arrive. So I called my parents instead to wish them well. My daughter Christa prepared Thanksgiving Dinner for them as she always does if they are not coming to our house, & took it to their house. She ate with them, as my grandchildren were sick all night with what appears to be the flu. So they stayed home so as not to get my parents sick. Then my daughter went home to stay with the kids while Christa's husband went to his families home for Thanksgiving Dinner with them.
We still ended up with a lot of great people to be around. We had, my DH & I, Walt's kids Kat & Russ, & Kat's BFF, Courtney came with her Fiance Jeremy & his two Daughters, Ari (14) & Leah (9) from a prior marriage & his Mother, Alice. Then Courtney's Dad & Step-Mom, Don & Debbie came too! Oh, I forgot to include Carolyn, Walt's Ex-Wife was here as well!! We have been inviting her to all our gatherings for about 9-10 years I believe. We joke & call each other Sisters!! LOL.
Leah went crazy when she saw my painting studio & wanted to ask all kinds of questions. She also wanted to see all my paintings & sketches that I have done. She was just so excited talking about it, that I gave her one of my smaller sketch books & a sketching pencil & eraser to sketch with. So she spent the rest of the day sketching things & showing them to me all day! Wasn't that sweet? Then she left me with one of her sketches, so of course, I had to pin it up on the fridge with a magnet.
I am going to post some pictures, but I want to apologize in advance for them not being very good! I was taking them pretty fast before anyone had time to say no!! So some are blurry, some are not in total focus, etc.
Kat, with Leah (9) on her right & Ari (14) on her left. They were impatiently waiting for the Turkeys to finish cooking!
This is Courtney with her Dad, Don & her Step-Mom, Debbie & her future Mother-In-Law Alice in the white sweater.
Here is Carolyn & I, the sister's!! LOL But we get along great.
Walt draining off some of the excess liquid out of the corn. He had spilled it carrying it from the stove area to the counter.
Walt getting more of the dishes on the counter for the buffet line up!
The beginning of the buffet line! We had two differently prepared Turkeys. One was rotisseried on the barbecue, the other was deep fried (yum), & a Honey Baked Ham (double yum).
Just a quick shot of the whole line of food. Everyone was starving by the time the Turkeys were done, & they didn't even want to wait for Walt to clear off the carcass's from the counter!!
And last but not least, a picture of my Step-Son, Russ. He was already totally drunk by this time!! He will not drink & drive (thank god), so he had to wait until he had brought Carolyn to the house, then he could start his drinking in earnest! He made himself some Long Island Ice Tea's!! I believe he was much more liberal with the alcohol on the second one!!

Walt picked the color out & to this day, I still don't like it! He also insisted on painting them in enamel semi-gloss! So they shine as well!!!

Sorry about the messy pictures! Also, sorry that I didn't get any shots of the desserts! But they were fantastic believe me! Yes, I did partake of the dinner. I had two small pieces of Turkey, a small piece of Ham (sliced very thin), a spoonful of Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, a spoonful of Corn & a couple of spoonfuls of the homemade Macaroni & Cheese!! Then a little bit later, I had a small piece of the Pumpkin Pie & an even smaller piece of the Chocolate Creme Pie with a small amount of Vanilla Ice Cream. But, I didn't eat the crusts!! However, I did eat more than I should have, but still didn't eat to the point of hurting, so I hope that I didn't swell out my pouch (that is the only concern I had). No getting stuck or PB'g thank goodness!!!
Well, I better go for now, hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving!! Next is Christmas!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!! :)

New Beginnings :)
Hey Ya'll,
Just wanted to say that I have lost another 3.8 lbs! I am now down to 205.0! It looks like I will be able to make onederland by Christmas!!
Last night my DH, made me walk the block with him again. It appears that this is going to be a nightly ritual. It isn't so bad once we get going, except for the cold. I really don't want to walk before dark, I would rather walk after dark so no one can see me too clearly, which makes it colder. Hopefully by Spring, I will look better walking. Because of my hips, I walk funny. I am hoping with the weight loss, it will help me to walk better & in less pain. If only our walk was somewhere peaceful & pretty like this!
Well, I better go for now, we have to clean up the house for our Thanksgiving guests. My DH (Walt) will be doing most of the cooking. He will deep fry one of the turkeys & rotisserie another (yum). Then make mashed potatoes, gravy & corn. Our friend Courtney is bringing a ham (yum), & Carolyn (Walt's ex-wife) will bring a green vegetable & some pumpkin pies. I'm not sure if we will have anything else though. Others may bring something that I am not aware of. Right now I am not up to decorating the house for Thanksgiving. However, I do intend to decorate for Christmas (my favorite holiday)!
By the way, a big shout out to Courtney! If you are reading this, Happy 26th Birthday today!!!

I'm Down Again!! :)
Hey Ya'll,
Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. It's just that there wasn't much to post about. My pain is getting less & less everyday, as expected. The big news is that I am down from my lowest pre-surgery weight! My lowest pre-surgery weight was 211.0. I am now at 208.8, so I have lost another 2.2 lbs!! Yea!! Since I started my pre-op diet, I have lost 19.8 lbs. My diet has consisted of some items not on the approved list for the first week of recovery.
I have added a few items from the 2nd & even 3rd weeks, & I haven't had any problem eating them. What I have been eating that isn't on the approved list for the 1st week is, Oatmeal, Tuna, Cottage Cheese, & a small amount of Enchilada (which was very soft & mushy with ground beef instead of shredded beef) & some Refried Beans (umm yummy). Yesterday was the first day that I could really drink lots of liquid between meals though, so I am upping my water intake by leaps & bounds.
I know that most of you went off your pain medications within a couple of days of surgery, but my DH said that I would heal faster if I could cut the pain level, as my body would be more relaxed, allowing it to heal. And since he has been home with me every day except yesterday, he had kept me drugged up!! :) Yesterday, I went without any drugs until I went to bed, & except for a headache, I felt fine all day.
I have been fighting a headache ever since I got out of the Hospital. But since we were in the Desert with extremely high winds, I am thinking that it got my allergies up, so I took something for them last night, so hopefully, I won't have a headache today.
Last night, DH came home from work & said, get dressed, it's time for a walk!! So I told him that I had just taken something for my head & I wanted it to start working before I went outside. So a little later, we went for a walk around the block. That is the first time I have done that in the 9 yrs we have lived in this house!! I was huffing & puffing, but I made it (our block is on a hill, so no matter which way you walk, you will end up walking uphill).
I will be posting my measurements soon. Well guys & girls, I don't have anything else to say right now, so I guess that I will just say goodbye.

OMG!! I Hate Constipation!! :(
Hey Y'all,
Well, I made it through the Surgery just fine, & so far still no gas pains, thank god!! But I have had the worst case of Constipation already!! I didn't think I was ever going to be able to go! But finally....relief!! LOL. Sorry if this is TMI for you, but this is how I am feeling right now, so I just want to be honest.
The other problem I am having is my ears. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the Surgery or not (probably not), or if it was due to the drive home over the Sierra's. I had taken some of my Liquid Vicodin for pain during the ride home & I became a bit tired so I tried to lay my head back while driving home & slept a bit, which meant that I wasn't awake to attempt to keep my ears cleared, pressure wise. So, I am guessing that my pain is from the pressure.
I've got to tell you, even though my DH tried his best to drive slowly home, which is totally against his nature! Parts of the road on the drive home is still in horrible condition & bumpy! My DH forgot to keep out a pillow for my head & I felt like I was being tortured, as the truck is not the most comfortable to begin with, then all the bouncing & bumping!
Once we got home, I felt like I had been hit by a truck so I took some more drugs & went to bed for a few hours. Once I woke up, I felt much better!! I will be posting some of the photos that my DH took of me in the Hospital, some are not too great, so please bear with us, he forgot to turn on the flash.
This is me right after the 2nd Nurse, Bing was able to get my IV started in my right hand. The 1st Nurse, attempted it in my left, which is why I have the bandage on my left hand! Don't I look pretty in my huge gown & socks? Not to mention the leggings! But boy were they nice! Like getting a leg massage all night. So much better than the old fashioned tight stocking leggings.
Here is the board that listed the Doctor's, Anesthesiologist's & Nurse's assigned to each bed. The red check is me. My Doctor was Kozar & the Anesthesiologist was Dr Marshall (the Head of Anesthesia).
The Surgical Nurse & the Student Nurse that I agreed to allow in the OR, getting ready to wheel me to the OR.
Being wheeled back to my permanent room. You can see by my eyes & forehead that I had spotted my DH & was trying not to cry!
Here is a photo of my Stitches today before we left the Hotel. They had bled during the night while I was sleeping, turning, walking, etc. Unfortunately, the flash wasn't on, so the color is horrible. You can see the bloating of the stomach was accentuated.

This is a photo that I took when we stopped at the Summit rest area for a bathroom break on our way to Reno. It had snowed the day before & left some nice clean snow.

Aloha My New Friend :)
It's Done! I'm Banded! Now The Fun Begins :)
Hey Y'all,
Well I made it! We arrived at the Hospital at 5:45am for a 6am check in time. DH & I were taken back almost immediately & I was weighed in, (gasp). But even with my jeans on, I only weighed 211.4, (yippee)!! We were expecting my weight to be higher since we had gone to dinner the night before, & I had a nice Fillet Mignon with 1/2 a baked potato & a small dinner salad, not to mention the fantastic piece of cake for dessert!! So my weight was back to what I weighed on our home scale, just before we left our house Wednesday morning to drive to Reno, & after I had already drank a Protein shake. :)
I was sure my weight would have gone up from the dinner the night before, not down (go figure)!! Anyway, I was taken back to my station where I was prepped for Surgery. They gave me this huge gown that was in risk of falling off my shoulders if I move too much. But it was comfortable. I would rather have it too large, than too small & showing parts even my mother hasn't seen in years!! LOL.
The Nurse assigned to me for Surgery Prep, was really sweet. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to get my IV started on the first try, so instead of attempting it several more times, causing me pain, she immediately requested a more experienced Nurse take over to put in my IV. The 2nd Nurse got it in on the 1st try!! And I don't have a bruise from it either!! Shortly after, the Surgical Nurse came in to introduce herself & discuss the procedure. She also introduced a student Surgical Nurse & asked my permission to allow her to attend my Surgery as a learning experience. Of course, I said ok. My DH began taking pictures of all the different Nurses for me.
Then the Anesthesiologist came in to introduce himself & go over my records, etc. (we found out that he was actually the Head of Anesthesia at the Hospital, so I had the top guy in charge of my Anesthesia!). When he found out that I had both, Obstructive Sleep Apnea as well as Central Sleep Apnea, & that I was to go home the same day, he asked if I would be willing to stay overnight for observation. We said that if they felt it was in my best interest & the Insurance would approve it, that I would of course stay the night. So he went to discuss my case with my Surgeon, Dr Mark Kozar.
After discussing my case together, they came back in & said that because my Central Sleep Apnea periodically causes my Brain to not send signals to breath, & because the heavy pain medication causes the general body functions to slow down, including respiration even further, they were concerned that my Bi Pap Machine alone may not force me to start breathing again. So they felt it best to keep me overnight the first night, when I would be most likely to use the heavier dose of medication so they could monitor my oxygen levels.
Probably a good thing, because if I wasn't using the oxygen through the canola (Nose). Every time I began to fall asleep, my breathing slowed way down (if not stopped altogether) & I wasn't getting enough oxygen. Then my Oxygen Monitor would start flipping out. So I had to use the Oxygen through the canola (Nose). When I was ready to go to sleep (or at least attempt sleep), I began using my Bi Pap Machine, but then again, my Oxygen levels dropped below their acceptable level, so someone from the Pulmonary Department came in & hooked me up to the Oxygen Unit through my Bi-Pap Machine! So DH & I are thinking that we may want to discuss this with my Pulmonogist to see if I should be using oxygen every night as well. Something to think about at any rate.
Anyway, I digress again. After the Doctor came in to discuss what was going to happen with everyone involved, in my little space, DH began taking pics again. So I got a picture taken with my Surgeon as well. Then, they wheeled me into the OR. I always forget how cold it is in those rooms!! My body was shaking uncontrollably. But I don't remember too much other than that, as I was knocked out pretty quick!
During the Surgery, the Doctor discovered that I did have a Hiatal Hernia, so he went ahead & fixed it. Isn't that great, that I got two Surgeries for the price of one!!?? I didn't even know that I had one. It didn't show up in the Upper GI test, although I did have some of the symptoms.
I came out of Surgery easily, so they told me, as I don't remember it. Apparently I had requested ice chips while I was waking up. After awhile, I did start to realize where I was, but the effects were really very minimal compared to some of my past Surgeries. I was really glad at that. I usually come out of Anesthesia with cracked, chapped lips. Not this time!!! I did not have any of the bad effects of Anesthesia, like Nausea.
I also haven't had any gas pains as yet. Is this normal? Or does the gas pains come later? I really hope that if I don't have them as yet, I won't get them, at least not bad. The only pain I have had so far is where the Portal was placed. Which is what I was expecting. So, if I don't get the gas pains, I can live with the normal Portal pain. From reading everyone's blogs, I REALLY HOPE I DON'T GET THE GAS PAINS!!!
Anyway, I was digressing again. Once it was clear that I was waking up enough to be able to communicate, etc., they called to advise they were ready for me to go to a room. Since I wasn't originally expected to stay the night, they didn't have a room immediately available, so we had to wait for a room. Then I was transported to my room. Once we got to the ward where my room was to be, my DH was standing there waiting for me.
Up until that time, I was fine. But once I saw him, looking at me with so much concern on his face, I just couldn't hold in the emotions & tears started to well up in my eyes. Did I ever mention that I am a very emotional person? I am one of those that can cry at the drop of a hat. I cry reading books, I cry watching TV, Movies, TV Commercials, etc, etc, etc. My dad never had to even spank me growing up (and this was back when corporal punishment was acceptable. When if you were out in public, & your child was misbehaving, you were looked down on if you didn't spank the child. This was when teachers had the authority to spank you if necessary). Anyway, he never had to spank me, all he had to do was say he was disappointed in me, & I would bawl my eyes out! So, it took me a few minutes to get my composure back. After all, I was alive, & in very little pain, compared to what I was expecting.
Of course, the reason I was feeling little pain at that time, was because I had just been given a double dose of liquid Vicodin before leaving Recovery. Which in turn made me very drowsy shortly after being settled into my room. My poor DH, had to sit there & watch me go in & out of sleep for a while. So I finally convinced him to go get himself something to eat & relax before bringing my Bi Pap Machine back to the Hospital for me to sleep with. I was lucky though, my room was designed to be a Semi-Private room, but no one was brought in while I was there, so I had to whole room to myself. Anyway, unless I can think of something that I left out, this is my Surgery/Hospital story. Hopefully, it will help someone else down the road.
We came back to our Hotel room after leaving the Hospital & originally didn't intend to go to the lunch at the Buffet. But by the time Walt was ready to leave, I was feeling ok, so I decided to go. We had a great time & I had my first meal out that wasn't clear liquids in the Hospital. I am lucky in that my Surgeon only required clear liquids the first 24-48 hrs after Surgery. Since I was having so little trouble, & had no nausea, etc. I had a spoonful of cottage cheese, a spoonful of beans, a spoonful of mashed potatoes with gravy & a few spoonfuls of the filing of a piece of key lime pie. I was satisfied, not full.
Then about 3 1/2-4 hrs later, I was hungry again, so my DH & I walked into the Hotel/Casino area & had dinner. I had some tuna from a tuna sandwich (no bread) (about 1/4 c) & a few pieces of cantaloupe & honey dew melon. That was about 4:30, & it is now 8 pm, & I am still satisfied. It really hit me today, that I really need to figure out how to eat differently!! I knew it, but now that the Surgery is done, it is a different story living with it!
Well, I am sure that there is something that I am leaving out, but I am really tired & can't remember everything. I have only had abut 3-4 hrs of sleep each night for the last 3-4 nights. When we get home, I will download the photos & upload them in a day or two. I am going to try to read some blogs tonight, before I fall to sleep. So I may not get caught up for a couple of days.

A New Beginning :)
Howdy,
The surgery went very well. We got to the hospital a little before 6 am. Deb went back to the surgery room a little before 8 (surgery was schedule for 7:30 am - 9:00 am) and got out a little after 9 am into recovery. I wasn't able to join her in recovery. She was moved to a room around 11:30 am. This was originally going to be handled as an outpatient procedure. However, the surgeon after consultation with the anesthesiologist decided that because of the severity of her sleep apnea she should stay overnight in the hospital for observation (the concern is that the drugs used to suppress pain also tend to slow other bodily functions, such as respiration). Deb had the drink test about 4 pm and everything was fine. That wasn't a big surprise: she a had consumed several small cups of ice chips, drank a dose of liquid vicodin, and used the facilities several times prior to the drink test.
After getting back to her room from the drink test she was able to eat. When I left (I am going back: I have to bring her by-pap machine to her, since we were not originally planning on her staying overnight in the hospital) she was working on chicken broth, water (flavored with lemonade stuff, Crystal Light I think), and probably jello.
A dose of the liquid vicodin intially makes her pretty sleepy and she dozes off. When she is sleeping her oxygen level (without the machine) drops to a level that the little oxygen monitor doesn't like and it starts screaming. So she has an oxygen hook-up as well. The nurses said they will try her by-pap mahicne without any oxygen assist to begin with. If her oxygen levels don't look good with just the by-pap machine they will add oxygen to the air supply provided by the machine, so she will have enough oxygen one way or the other. The one hookup she likes is the lower leg massage and wants to take that home.
She wanted all her supporters to get an update and not have to wait until tomorrow when she gets back to the hotel room. I have tried to provide enough information to let you know how Deb is doing. She will undoubtedly have more to say when she is able to get to the computer along with pictures eventually. On a personal note from me: I appreciate all the support she has received from all of you. It has helped tremendously, thank you.
Have fun,
Walt

My Adventures Today :)
Hey Y'all,
We made it up the hill with no difficulties thank goodness! It had snowed over night, but had stopped by this morning & the roads were already cleared & dry. So no ice either, yea! This morning, I weighted the same (211.0) as yesterday. Then, I weighted myself just before we left, after I had drank a shake & I weighted 211.4. At the Doctor's office, I weighted in at 212.6 after I had drank 2 Protein shakes & barely urinated all morning! So my DH figures that our scale is for sure within 1 lb of the Doctor's which makes me feel good. But since the Doctor only requested that I lose 11 lbs, & even at a slightly higher weight this morning, I was still showing a 16 lb loss! I will take that!
The Doctor didn't say anything about my weight loss though. But then, DH kept him busy answering questions regarding the type of band & how much fill he was going to have in it initially. The Doctor says that he generally puts in 2-2 1/2 cc's of saline. So I will have a small restriction right off the bat!
However, I was not a happy camper this morning. :( I received an e-mail from my Patient Advocate Sarai, at the Surgeons office last night, right about the time their office closed letting me know that they were still missing the results of my Blood Work & my Chest X-Rays!!! Say What??? So last night I called THE LAB & told them that the Surgeons office hadn't received the faxed test results. They said that they were waiting for the Doctor's office to call & request them!!! The order slip requested the results be FAXED!! I also advised them of this myself last week when the blood was drawn. They said no problem. So last night, the woman I spoke with, said no problem, she was faxing them right then, so the Doctor would have them this morning. I thought great!
Then I called the Hospital & spoke with someone in Imaging & went through the whole talk again. She said they didn't know they were to fax them, I advised her that I told the Technician that they needed to be faxed immediately upon reading & provided the fax numbers to both the Doctor's office & the Hospital. She wrote all this information down on the slip in front of me that day, so I know they had it! Anyway, the person I spoke with last night, said that she would fax the results last night as well. Great!
This morning, I call the Doctor's office to verify they received them only to find out that they still had not received them, from either place!!! WTH???!!! So I told them that I had called & was advised by both entities, they would be faxed last night. Since they still hadn't received them. I gave them the numbers to call, since maybe they would get better results, coming from the Doctor's office instead of me. Thankfully, they called back & said they finally got them, AFTER THEY CALLED!! How many times do the results need to be requested??? This is sooo frustrating. Anyway, if you have not been following a new blogger named Tracy (Metamorphic Journey) already, please check her blog out. She is getting banded on Friday & today's post made my day look like a ride in the park!!!
Tonight, we went to The Outback & I had a fantastic Fillet Mignon, baked potato & salad. Even the salad tasted great!! We had dinner with our friend Nadene & had a nice long talk with her. I am really going to miss her when she leaves for Virginia next week. :(
As for the Buffet on Friday, I will take everyone's advise & play it by ear. My thoughts are that I will probably not make it. But who knows!!
I want to give a shout out to Tracy (Metamorphic Journey), just in case I am having trouble tomorrow & don't blog or I forget, I want to wish you well in your Surgery on Friday!! I am sure you will have no problems. And let you know that I will be thinking of you.
Also, I want to wish Dawn B (What I Weighed In High School) a HAPPY 45th BIRTHDAY tomorrow!!
Well, I better go for now. I need to at least attempt to get some sleep tonight!! LOL

LOL
Aloha My Friends :)
1 Day To Go!! I'm On My Way!!
It's One Day Away!! Yippee!! Is it Christmas?
Hey Y'all,
I am writing this late at night before I go to bed as I am not too sure how much time I will have in the morning before we leave & I want to post. If I do have time, I will post a quickie in the am on our way out of the house. My DH is bringing his Laptop Computer with us so I will check in tomorrow night to let you know how my appointment with the Surgeon went. I will also try to post the day of Surgery (if I feel up to it???).
Can you believe this? Since my Mother-In-Law found out that we will be in the Reno area this week, she invited us to lunch at one of the Casino/Buffets. I think I mentioned in an earlier post how my Father-In-Law was recently diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the Liver. He is not doing well, & my MIL believes that he probably won't make it through the Winter season. So she called up his sister in So Cal & convinced her that if she wants to see him before he passes, she better come up. So this is a gathering of the family.
Unfortunately, it is the day AFTER my SURGERY!! I told my DH that if I am not feeling up to it, he can go without me, but that I would try to make it. What do you think my chances are of feeling up to going to a Buffet & sitting for a couple of hours watching everyone eat? Do you think I should attempt it or stay in the room & crash?
Well, I better go for now, I needs me some sleep before the long drive in the morning.

Yes! New Weight &&& 2 Days To Go :)
It's 2 Days & Counting!! :)
Hey Y'all,
I lost another .4 lbs!! I know it isn't much, but I will take it. This makes me at an even 18 lb loss so far. :)
Sorry I didn't post yesterday. I meant to but just didn't quite get to it, although I did try to read some of the current posts & I managed to comment on a few of them.
I was doing laundry allll Dayyy longgg!! I still have to do a couple more loads of laundry :(. But at least I have plenty of clean laundry to last a couple of weeks! :) Today I have to do all of the preparation to go to Reno for my Surgery. I have to go to Costco to purchase some goods, check the mail at our PO Box, go to the Bank, change the sheets on our bed (I like to come home to clean sheets after being gone, that way it feels like we are still on vaca so to speak since you get clean sheets every day while gone), shower & shave really well, pack & write a few e-mails to family & friends, etc, etc!!!
April (Band New), if you are reading this, I have been trying to leave comments on your blog, but it won't let me scroll down far enough to type in the special letters & to push the final send button. I have been trying for a long time now. Hope you get it fixed!!
As for my diet my amigos, or is it amigas (I think it is amigos)? Anyway, the DIET really hasn't been bad at all! Nothing like I had feared. But then, it all depends on if you can get a Protein Drink that is at least palatable for you. I was lucky to have found one that I actually like, so it has been no problem drinking them. And as for hunger, I really haven't been hungry. Head hunger at times, but actual hunger, very rare. Of course, this might have been much worse had I had to go to an actual job. I am retired (disability) so I only work at home. My DH is self employed & I keep the books, etc. So I sit at my desk most of the time.
I just finished reading an e-mail from my friend Nadene up in Truckee, letting me know that they are expecting a good snow storm tonight that is to last until morning. She is telling me this because we have to drive up over the Sierra's & through Truckee on our way to Reno tomorrow morning. So we will definitely have to deal with some snow! Damn, I was hoping to not have to deal with it. So I guess it is a good thing we are taking DH's 4x4 TRUCK!
Although, I am taking a blanket to cover up with & extra pillows to lay on for the return trip, to try to cushion the bouncing since I will only be 2 days out of Surgery! LOL The people at the Hotel/Casino Valet will think it strange, this middle aged woman stepping up into this truck with a double step collapsible step, onto some positioned pillows!! Oh well. Maybe DH will take some pics to show how comical I looked. Umm, maybe not, we'll see.
Well, I better go for now, got lots to do!!

A New Follower!! :)
Welcome to my new follower, Melissa!! I wish that I could check out your blog & follow it too, but when I pull up your profile, it doesn't list your blog site. If you would like to provide it, I would love to check it out!! Otherwise, hello, & "welcome to my nightmare". If you are a newbie, I hope my blog helps you, as well as the others that I follow, they have a lot of information. If you are an experienced bander, then, I hope you get some giggles out of my misadventures!!
2 More LBS Down, YEA!!! :)
It's 4 days & counting now!!
Hey Y'all,
I just stepped off the ole scales & was very surprised to see that I have lost another 2 lbs since yesterday!! I was hoping for a measly .5, so I am truly amazed. I might just make my goal of making it to 210.0!! Dare I hope for 208.6, which would put me at an even 20 lb loss for pre-surgery diet? Well, if I make it just 1 more lb, I will be happy, but more is always better in this instance!! Only time will tell. :)
Yesterday, DH & I went to visit with my parents. Neither of them are doing well (at all). My Mom is in constant pain. She has a Heart Condition & she should have had a Bypass yrs ago, but didn't because they didn't have Insurance. She also has severe Back/Spinal problems & was supposed to have had Back Surgery yrs ago, but didn't because of the Insurance thing. She also has Fibromyalgia, Diabetes, Kidney & Liver problems, etc, etc, etc. Her Diabetes, I believe is getting out of hand, & she has severe Neuropathy due to the Diabetes.
Her legs & feet hurt her so bad, she can't even stand to have shoes on anymore! She told me yesterday that her right foot is starting to freeze on her, she can't move the right toes at all!! My dad told me she hurts so bad, she rarely gets out of bed except to go to the bathroom. Unless they have a visitor, then she gets up & puts on a good face trying to make you think she is doing ok. But she can barely walk anymore, even with the walker that we gave her. Back Surgery is out of the question now, the Surgeon said that her back is too far gone & he can't help her. The Spine has deteriorated too much. I would have taken my camera with me to take photos, but she would not have allowed me to take her picture, which is sad, because although she doesn't look good, it is what she looks like now, which should be preserved.
My Dad had to undergo a Quadruple Heart Bypass about 15 yrs ago, which rendered him totally Handicapped & unable to work as he had fallen while having the Heart Attack & broke his Neck in the process, then had a couple of mini Strokes while in the Hospital. Unfortunately, he has not been eating the proper diet he should have been eating afterwords, so his Heart is bad again. Then a couple of yrs ago, he fell out of his car on New Years morning, breaking his Hips & one of his Legs in multiple places. He had to undergo a very long surgery to place rods & pins into his Leg & Hip.
Anyway, he has been in constant pain ever since & it is only getting worse (he is now 76 yrs old). Yesterday, he was telling us that he gets very tired if he exerts himself even a small amount (which is telling me his Heart is not functioning properly again (he got like this before his Heart Attacks yrs ago)). Which is bad, because he is now having to do a lot of the work in their house since my mom is barely able to move anymore herself. AND, they are raising their Great Grandson who is only 7 yrs old & has ADHD!
Why doesn't the child's Mother or Grandmother take care of him do you ask? Good question. Because they are both lazy, good for nothings that would rather sleep & take drugs than help my parents around the house like cooking & cleaning. Yes, they do live with my parents as well (at least on & off, one of them is almost always there)!!!
The sad thing is that my Nieces son Charlie, is all my Dad thinks about. When you talk to him, he never talks about his other Grand Children, just Charlie (even in front of the other GK's). He doesn't realize that he is hurting the feelings of the others, because he knows that when he dies, Charlie will either have to go live full time with his Mom/Grandmother in the most scary part of town, or he will be put in the system. Which sad to say, I think will be the best, because maybe he would find some stability there with someone who is young enough to be able to really handle him & help him.
My Dad hints that he would like either my Brother or myself to take Charlie in when he dies, but we wouldn't even consider it unless we were able to adopt him, & the Mom & Grandmother not have anything to do with him & us. Because, they would always come around with their boyfriends, etc. Charlie's Dad is one scary dude (violent, he beat my Niece multiple times), he is one step away from Prison right now (he has already served time in Jail multiple times). And we just don't want that element coming to our homes!!!!
Besides the fact that my Brother has become Disabled himself (long sad story), & can't keep up with Charlie. Myself, I couldn't deal with him either. I am Partially Disabled, mobility wise & any stress just sets off my pain levels through the roof. I was lucky in that my Daughter was the most perfect child anyone could ask for. Which is why I never had another child. I knew that if I did, that child would be the total opposite, & I could not have dealt with it!! LOL. She never gave me one ounce of trouble, even as a teenager.
Now, my Step-Son was another story!! He was the opposite of my Daughter, so he was the child I was afraid to have. LOL. When my DH & I got together, Russ had just turned 5 & he was a lot like Charlie (energy wise) & had some other issues as well. So we had about 3 yrs of trials & tribulations with him, but thank god, he finally settled down & it has been mostly smooth sailing ever since. Now, I couldn't imagine our lives without him, but for a few yrs there, it was iffy. But that was many yrs ago & I was much younger.
I can't imagine having to cope with Charlie day in & day out, I would go stark raving mad. It's hard to even visit for more than an hour or two, before my nerves start screaming to get away!! So as much as we love Charlie & feel bad for what will become of him, we cannot take him in. Nor will we support my Sister or my Niece. They are both adults fully capable of earning a living, they will just have to go out & GET A JOB!!!
My parents do not read this blog, thank god, as it would kill them to know how everyone feels about my Sister & Niece. But once my parents are gone, we will not support them, nor have anything to do with them. We have been trying for yrs to get my parents to do "tough love" with them, & refuse to support them anymore, but they just can't. My Sister is 44 yrs old (9 1/2 yrs younger than me) & my Niece is 27 yrs old. So we will not support them, period!! Anyway, sorry that I went off on a tangent today. But sometimes it is nice to get things off your chest, even if it is just to vent on (paper) so to speak.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend, sorry for the downer today.
Aloha My Friends :)
Wow!! 21 Follower's-Welcome!!!
Hey Y'all,
Just wanted to say a big fat welcome to my newest follower, Kathy (Don't Look Back). I have been following your blog as well. I noticed on your site that you are a big fan of NASCAR. Well, I am glad to see someone who is interested in racing as well, unfortunately, my favorite form of racing is NHRA Drag Racing. But I only like to watch the Funny Cars & Top Fuel. Anyway, "welcome to my nightmare" as the lyric goes in one of Alice Cooper's old songs. But honestly, I am not considering this to be a nightmare, it is just a term I like to use. I am actually looking forward to my journey that will begin in only 4 days!!

Down A Tad Bit More!!! :)
It's 5 days until Lap Band day!! :)
Hey Y'all,
Happy Saturday everyone!! Hope everyone has a great weekend planned & doesn't have to work. I jumped on the ole scale just a few minutes ago & found that I lost another .6 lbs! I know it isn't much, but, hey, I will take it!! Here's hoping (imagine my fingers being crossed) that I can lose another 3 lbs by Wednesday when I see the Surgeon. That would make me an even 210.0.
I've decided NOT to ask my Surgeon for permission about eating a REAL MEAL on Wednesday, the day before Surgery (if anyone has any comments, for or against this move, please let me know)! We will have my appointment with the Surgeon at 1:15, then we will go to the Hotel/Casino & check in so we can drop off all our bags & all of my pillows (which I will need to be laying on in our truck for the return ride home), then I have to go to the Hospital to Pre-Register at 3:15. Once we are done with that, we will go have an early dinner of my choice with our friend Nadene. Then back to fluids only for the rest of the day!
Well, yesterday was One Of Those Days that most people HATE, since it lands on what most people consider an unlucky number. How did everyone fare? What is strange, is that my DH & I consider the number 13 to be a lucky number for us. In fact, we were married on a Friday the 13th!! LOL. We have been married for 16 yrs (17 in April) & have been together for 18 yrs, still going strong, so I guess it is still a lucky number for us!!
Well, I guess I better go for now. Got lot's to do & so little time to do it in.

My First NSV's Yea!!!
Hey Y'all,
Just wanted to say that I have finally noticed some amazing changes, but I forgot to post them. Tuesday, when I went to the Hospital to finish my Pre-Op Lab Work, I put on the shoes that I had bought to wear last Winter, as my feet had become so swollen that I could no longer wear my usual shoes (& hadn't been able to since April 08)! I had been getting by with wearing flip flops most of the year (thank goodness we live in California). But it does get cold in the Winter, even here.
So last year, I purchased some pull on shoes online from LL Bean, that has a zipper on top & in a 1/2 size larger in Wide Width, making them easier to get on. Even so, usually when I first put them on (every time), I would have to force the zipper up on the left shoe, & it would be tight until it stretched out. But Tuesday, they came right on & was almost too large (actually they were too large, but I was afraid to try on my regular shoes). So I wore them anyway & they were just swimming on my feet all day!!
This also means that my legs & ankles are not constantly swollen!! My legs & feet feel much better. I just wish the Restless Leg Syndrome would go away!! LOL
Also, my hands aren't as swollen anymore, I can almost get my rings back on my fingers. I haven't been able to wear my rings in at least 2 years!!! The only exception to this is when I go somewhere where it is much cooler than I am used to, then the swelling in my hands go down & I can get on one of my larger rings on temporarily. Which is sad, I love my rings. However, I really only wear my wedding band on a daily basis (when I could that is). I wear the fancier rings when we dress up. So, when we were on vacation last month, I was able to wear one of my rings, but not my wedding band. :(
The last but best NSV is; I can bend over to pick up something without feeling like I want to die. Before, I could barely pick up something that I dropped on the floor, even from a sitting position!! So I am definitely feeling much better already! I can't wait for more weight to come off!!

Less Than A Week To GO :)
Hey Y'all,
Well, it is now only 6 days until Surgery!! I can't believe how fast it is going!! OMG, it seems like I get out of bed & the next thing, I am going back to bed! Where did the day go? I am not getting anything accomplished! Right now, I can't seem to concentrate on anything except for the upcoming Surgery. Did anyone else have this problem? Or were you able to get on with your normal lives with no problems?
I have a small beef to talk about & I hope it doesn't offend those that caused me to be concerned. I have been catching up on all the blogs that I have been following, as I am a bit out of date in them!! I have made comments on some of the blogs without any problem, with my comment posting immediately. But with a few of the blogs, I received a message saying that my comment will be posted, only after it has been reviewed. I hope that this isn't because they have had some bad experience with comments in the past.
I would never make a bad comment on someones blog & I hope that everyone else would only make good, helpful comments to me as well! It is just sad to think that they feel they must review the comments before allowing them to be posted! Please tell me that you haven't had anything bad posted on your blogs. :( These blogs are our way of working through our challenges & being encouraged along the way! Not for someone to bash us for our choices. Anyway, I will get off my soapbox!! Sorry if this upsets anyone, I didn't mean for it to & I apologize upfront, if it did.
Let me post a few pictures that were taken last weekend while my friend was here.
Kat & I, she wasn't too happy, she didn't have full makeup on, but I insisted she take photos anyway, sorry Kat, but you look beautiful anyway, as always!!
My sweetheart (DH), getting the chicken ready to go on the rotisserie on the barbecue! And I didn't get to eat a single bite of it, & I got to clean up the mess!! Lucky me, watching them eat & worst of all, smelling all the great food, & all I got for it was to clean it up!
Well, I guess I better go for now.

One Week Away :) But Scary News
Hey Y'all,
Well it is now 7 day until Lap Band day & the time has just been flying by. Just like everyone told me it would! LOL. I need to start pulling everything together that we need for the trip. Like clothes, what drinks I might need for the 2 days after Surgery before we arrive home, etc. I also need to wash all of the laundry before we leave so I don't have to worry about it for a couple of weeks. Yes, we have that many sets of underwear & outerwear to not need to wash every week if I so choose. But then again, that means I have a FULL DAY of washing ahead of me at that time!!
I put in my RX for my after Surgery Pain Medication at the local Pharmacy (CVS) a couple of days ago. Usually I wait in the store for the RX to be filled, so I don't have to make a return trip. Especially when I am trying to not go out of the house. I really don't want to get around sick people, PLUS, I am afraid that I will slip up & eat something not on my allowed list again. Which, right now, unless it is Green Beans or Carrots, it is not on the list!! The reason I couldn't get my RX filled the other day is that, they claim they do not carry in stock my RX in that high of a dosage!! I guess, someone might want to break in & steal it! Anyway, I am going to coerce my DH to go pick it up for me, for the reasons listed above. :)
I just finished checking the weather forecast for the drive over the Sierra's, & (cross your finger's it stays like this) it is supposed to snow on Tuesday, but not on Wednesday (the day we drive over). And snow on Friday, but be somewhat clear on Saturday (the day we drive home). Of course, when you are talking about weather & mountains, I'm sure you are as aware as I am, how volatile & unpredictable it can be!
So instead of taking my smaller, much more comfortable (not to mention much easier to get into & out of) Honda CRV (unfortunately we purchased it without 4x4 or all wheel drive), we are going to take my DH's huge Dodge Diesel (Cummins) 4x4 truck! It is so high, that even with a step attached, I have to jump up into the cab (remember, I am only 5' 3". Which I am a bit concerned about since it will only be 2 days after my Surgery. I am worried that it may be too difficult or painful to get into the truck with my Incisions. So, my DH is planning on taking one of our small step stools as an additional step up.
Unfortunately, even if this makes it ok to get into the truck, the truck is still a truck & most importantly, DRIVES LIKE A TRUCK!!! Luckily, it has a split bench seat, so I can tilt my seat back for more comfort if necessary, which I am absolutely certain I will! Plus, I am expecting to need to place & hold a pillow over my stomach for support while the TRUCK bounces, all the way home!!! But at least we know that we will be able to drive there & back. Here are some pics of the truck, & remember, it is larger & higher than it looks. My leg is just about perpendicular to my body when my foot is on the step.
If you look closely, you can see my small Blue Honda parked on the other side of the truck!! My DH said that he may be able to get another set of steps put on the truck that fold down lower before next week. But I am not going to hold my breath!! LOL. Oh, & please disregard the dirt in the front yard, it is a work in progress. My DH started to redo the front yard landscaping but only got so far as clearing out the unwanted grass, trees & bushes. Since it is now going into Winter fast, he is not planning on finishing it until next Spring! Unfortunately, the neighbors have to look at a lot of dirt too!! But at least we don't have to worry about mowing anything. :)
Well, that is about all for now.
Aloha My Friends :)

Woo Hoo!! 8 Days & More Weight Loss :)
Hey Y'all,
Well, it is now 8 days & counting! Yesterday, I went in for my Pre-Op Labs (EKG, Chest X-Ray & Blood Work) at the local Hospital. It took over half the day as my Surgeon's office didn't put the Diagnostic Code on the lab slip! So they refused to draw my Blood Work without it. So, I had to wait at the Lab until the Dr's Office reopened from lunch in order to call in & get the STUPID DIAGNOSTIC CODE NUMBER!!! Anyway, I got it & they took my 6 vials of Blood.
DH if you are reading this, you can scroll down to the next paragraph!! After leaving the Hospital, I drove to Sams Club to pick up some more Veggies & String Cheese. Now comes the confession time. Since I was out so long, & I hadn't had anything to eat or drink as yet, I started getting a bit light headed, which means that I needed to eat something soon! So, I drove through McDonald's. But...I managed to keep somewhat control over what I ordered. I really wanted to order a whole meal, but I held back & only ordered a Cheeseburger...no Fries or Soft Drink!!! So, in my book, that is an accomplishment!! It's funny, but the burger didn't taste the same to me. It kind of tasted like a Bison Burger, or maybe it was the salt I was tasting, I'm not sure, but it definitely tasted different!
Anyway, once I returned home, I saw that our Palm Tree guy, Dan was here. So I visited with him a bit before he had to leave. So by this time, it was getting pretty late. Since I had ate the burger, & I wasn't hungry, I decided to wait until dinner time to have my first shake. I ended up having only 2 shakes, the burger, one helping of the veggies & one string cheese & THANK THE LORD, I LOST WEIGHT!!! I was expecting to have gained! I lost another .6 lbs! I know it isn't much, but I will take it. And for your information, my scale only shows increments of .2, so I could have lost .79 & it would only show .6, unfortunately. So I have lost a total so far of 15 lbs, my current weight is 213.6. I still have one week to try to lose another 3.6 lbs to make an even 210.0 by Surgery day. I can dream can't I?
Well, I better go for now, have a great Hump Day everyone!!
Aloha My Friends :)
