I Have My Surgery Date!!

This is a photo of me (duh!) on the left, and my friend Kelly on the right in Salem.

Hey Ya'll,

Well I am so excited about getting my Surgery date!  It is set for Tuesday December 18th.  And I am to check into the Hospital at 6 am with a Surgery time of 7:30....but then we all know how that can go!!  So 7:30....11:30, who knows!!  LOL

And I do have to endure the 4 week Pre Op Diet like I had to endure for my Lap Band Surgery like I expected.  Oh goody!!  But since I do intend to have Thanksgiving with my family this year, for reasons that I will list later, I will actually only be on the Diet for about 3 and a half weeks.  But I was supposed to be on it for 4 weeks that last time for my Lap Band Surgery, and I was only on it for 2 and a half weeks.  I was supposed to lose 11 lbs, and I lost 17 lbs.  So I feel I should be able to lose the 10 lbs they want me to lose this time!

Now for the serious stuff....my Parents.  As I have talked about in past posts, they are both in seriously bad health.   My Mom has been in serious pain for many years, and has so many Medical problems, including COPD, Liver, Stomach, Kidney, Heart, etc problems that I don't know how she is still living!!

And my Dad was diagnosed with Lung Cancer earlier this year, and has been undergoing both Radiation and Chemo Treatments for months.  He is not doing well, and we are afraid that he may not make it through the Holidays.  So Walt and I drove down to Sacramento to visit with them this past weekend.  We were glad that we did as neither one looks well.

So because they are both in such bad health, we have decided to spend Thanksgiving with them this year instead of Christmas (we usually spend one Holiday with my family, and the opposite with Walt's Mom here in Nevada).  So I plan on eating a normal meal with them and enjoy the time we are with them.  Then when we return home, I will begin my "4 week Diet".

So if ya'll could send good thoughts their way, my family will much appreciate it.

Also what worries us, is that they have been raising my Sister's Grandson (their Great Grandson from birth).  He is now 10 years old, and is in a very bad stage.  He has been playing with fire and whatever he can get his hands on!!  In fact, we found out that in September, he almost burned down their home!!  They live in a Mobile Home, and were in bed taking a nap.  Luckily my Dad woke up and smelt smoke, so my Mom went to check on it and found the whole house was engulfed in smoke!

She found Charlie in the Living Room, running back and forth between the kitchen and living room with a glass of water, trying to put out the fire that he had set in a large plastic tub!!  My Mom managed to pull it out of the house, and turned the hose on it putting out the fire!!  Everyone talked to him, and tried to explain to him how dangerous this was, and that Mobile Homes especially would burn to the ground extremely fast.  If my Dad hadn't woke up, they would have been trapped in the back bedroom without a way of escape and died!!  And as usual, Charlie acted as if it were nothing!

While we were there this weekend, he came into the living room where we all were, and he literally reeked of Chlorine!!  We tried to tell him how dangerous messing with Chlorine is, and it just went in one ear and out the other....I don't know which will kill them first, their illnesses or HIM!!  And my Sister tries to get my Dad to let her take him to stay with her, but he refuses.  And he is so adamant about this "child" staying with them, that we feel if we force the issue, and take him out of their home, it will kill my Dad.

We are just hopeful that once my Dad goes, that my Mom will listen to reason and let my Sister take her Grandson to live with her.  This "child" is on Medications for ADHD, etc, and my Mom can barely stand up, so there is no way that she will be able to control him alone.  My Dad does it with his voice, and the fact that Charlie adores my Dad.  He just does whatever he can to get attention.

So on top of worrying about them and their health problems, now we have to seriously worry about Charlie killing them before their time!!  Please pray for them, and send good thoughts their way!!

Well, I better go for now, I have promised Walt to go to bed early tonight, so I will be in bed no later than 1am!!  But I have so much to do.  Till next time....

Aloha My Friends :)

I've Been Approved!!!

This is Mason, my hero!!  He took the initiative to get my Surgery approval started early!!

Hey Ya'll,

I am so excited!!  I just got off the phone with Mason, my Patient Advocate at the Surgeon's office.  He wanted to call and surprise me with great news.  Since I am a past patient, and I have already jumped through all but one hoop (which I will be attending the Back to Basics Class tomorrow), he went ahead and sent off for Surgery approval from my Insurance Company....and they have already approved it!!

Mason knew that I wanted the Surgery before the end of the year, so he took the initiative, and sent off for Pre Approval before I finished my last Class!  So now I will just be sitting on pins and needles waiting for the Surgery Scheduler to call me to set the Surgery date!!  How excited am I?  So excited that I am afraid to use the phone until she calls me!! LOL

But I am APPROVED!!  So now I have to attend the Back To Basics Class tomorrow.  This class is for post Surgery patients that may be having problems adjusting to the new eating lifestyle, and for Revision patients, so they can get a better understanding of what will be expected of them.  The standard class they give to 1st time patients prior to Surgery (Steps 2 Success), isn't as extensive.  This class is supposed to be much more detailed.  It is a longer class (1:30), but believe it or not, it is a less expensive class ($25 vs $60 for the Steps 2 Success)!!

So I go to class tomorrow, wait to hear from the Surgery Scheduler, then when she calls, I will be setting the final appointments up for Surgery.  I know that I have to attend at least one more class, which is a Pre Surgery class giving all the information on what to expect during and after Surgery, etc.  They will also be going over what to eat, and what kind of Vitamins to be taking, etc.  I don't remember if I find out at the class tomorrow, or the Pre-Op class before Surgery how much weight the Doctor expects me to lose prior to Surgery.

I do remember getting this information (I believe it will be at tomorrows class) at one of the classes.  The last time, I was expected to lose 11 lbs (I lost 17 lbs because I didn't actually start the Diet until I returned from Vacation.  So I only did the Diet for 2 1/2 weeks).  At this time, they also give you the Pre-Op Diet.  If I recall, the Pre-Op Diet is a 4 week Diet!!  But it isn't as bad as it sounds.  I researched back to my last Surgery Pre-Op Diet and if it hasn't changed, this is what I will have to do....

Week 1:
Breakfast: Protein Shake
Snack: Fruit, etc.
Lunch: 300 cal or less meal replacement w 1-2 cups veggies
Snack: same as above
Dinner: same as lunch
Snack: Protein Shake

Week 2:
Breakfast: Protein Shake
Snack: same as above
Lunch: Protein Shake and 1-2 cups veggies
Snack: same as above
Dinner: 300 cal/less meal replacement w 1-2 cups veggies
Snack: Protein Shake

Weeks 3-4:
Breakfast: Protein Shake
Snack: 1/2 Protein Shake
Lunch: Protein Shake and 1-2 cups veggies
Snack: same as above
Dinner: same as Lunch
Snack: same as above

I think I will be HATING Protein Shakes by the end of this!!! LOL

Well, it could be worse....some have to do just Protein Shakes the whole time!  At least this way you are gently taken down to almost pure liquid!!  But honestly, the last time, I wasn't hungry at all.  However, this time, I will probably be wanting to eat the furniture!! LOL

Well, I will go for now.  Just wanted to spread some happiness!!  My smile is so big right now, I am afraid that I will break through the ole RV walls!!  LOL  So....till next time....

I'm Back!! LOL

Hey Ya'll,

First off, I want to apologize for not having many photos in my posts lately.  I am not sure what is wrong, but I am having troubles with my iPhoto.  I haven't even been able to upload the photos from my vacation yet....Hopefully this will be fixed soon....I hate to be without photos.  I feel that they brighten the blog up.

Well, I am back home from my vacation to New Hampshire, Salem and Boston.  But so much has been happening!!  Too much to go into tonight, but I do want to say that I had a great time visiting my friend Kelly!  And we got to spend the last 2 nights together in Salem without her family, so we got to really chat it up!!  And no....we didn't run out of things to say!!  LOL

I returned on Saturday the 29th of September (very late), and I started running towards my goal of getting my Gastric Bypass approved on Monday, October 1st.  I had to attend a Group Support Meeting as one of my Surgeon's requirements for Surgery.  I didn't learn anything I didn't already know, especially since I had already attended this meeting back in 2009!  In fact, I probably knew more than most there, other than the Nutritionist, the moderator, and a couple of post Surgery patients that were there in support of their friends getting ready for Surgery!!  Oh well, it is a hoop that was required, and I did it!!

I have also attended my appointment with the Nutritionist, did my Psych Evaluation, and did my pre Surgery request testing of the RMR Study, and H Pylori test.  The H Pylori test came back negative, which is a good thing.  But my RMR Study came back showing me in the ultra high range....there was something wrong with this picture!!  LOL (if I were really burning calories at that rate (essentially sitting still doing absolutely nothing), then I would be a toothpick, not a lump of....!!)).  It should have shown me to be in the low range!!  And the Nutritionist agreed.

She looked up my results from the 2009 Study, and I was almost the same exact weight, and it proved that I was 8 percent below normal.  So luckily, since I am just about the same weight wise, etc, she is going to assume I am the same, and not make me redo the test!!  Especially since, I had had 2 Spinal Epidural Injections the day before, and I hadn't slept the whole night due to pain in the Legs, and a bad Headache.  So she is assuming that that could have effected my test results as well!

And after asking my PCP Doctor to send over her Letter Of Support to my Surgeon twice...I asked my Patient Advocate to request the Letter as well.  He is aware that I only have one more step to complete, then they can send off for Surgery approval.  But if her Letter wasn't received, it would of course hold this process up.  So he called their office and requested the Letter of Support, telling her that this is all we need to request Surgery approval, so she was holding us up!!

So yesterday, I got a call letting me know that they had faxed the Letter over....thank GOD!!  So my last step is to attend a Back To Basics Class on Wednesday next week.  Then I am going to push them to send off for the Surgery approval the NEXT DAY!!  LOL.  I need this to happen asap, as I want the Surgery to be done before the end of the year.  So we need the approval asap so we can set the Surgery date!  My Surgeon will be gone at least part of November on Vacation.  So I need to make sure I can get my date, as he always has newbies wanting Surgery too!!  LOL  So if we can get this approved my the first week in November, I should be able to get my Surgery date in December....So please cross your Fingers and Toes that this all comes to pass!!  LOL

And of course, once I get the approval and the date set, then I have more tests to do just prior to Surgery, as well as a couple more classes, which will be more extensive in how to eat after Surgery, etc.

Well, I better go for now, I have so much left to do!  Till next time....

Aloha My Friends :)

I'm Having A Blast!!

Hey Ya'll,

Well I have been here in New Hampshire since 5:15 am Wednesday morning.  Yes, I said since 5:15 am 'o-n Wednesday.  I was supposed to get here by 2 am, but THAT didn't  happen!!  But it is a long story that I will go into after I get home.  Suffice it to say that I was praying that I would make it out of Boston before sunrise...

But I am having a great time here with my friend Kelly.  Unfortunately, she still has to work, but the type of work she does, she mostly works split shifts, and we can see each other at least 3-4 hours most days.

And she has managed to get Friday and Saturday off.  Plus she only works until 10:30 am on Thursday.  This is great because she will be going with me on Thursday once she gets off work to Salem!!  I was really hoping that she would make it.  This will give us our 1st all girl road trip together.  So we will have most of Thursday, all of Friday, and the morning of Saturday.  That's when I have to drive back to Boston to fly home.

The main problem that I am having is lack of sleep!!  I am lucky if I can get 4 hours a night.  Last night I only got 2 hours...I guess that I am still running on pure adrenylin, so I figure that I will probably crash hard for at least a few days once I get home!  But at least I will have had a great time while here...

Well, like I said, I only got 2 hours sleep last night so I am going to end this and hope like hell that I can sleep tonight!  So, till next time....

Aloha My Friends :)

In 14 Hours I'm Gone!!

First Class Here I Come!!  Thank You Sweetheart!!

Hey Ya'll,

This is a really quick post to say that I will be leaving for my Vacation in 14 hours!!  And when I say 14 hours, I mean that my plane is leaving at that time!!  So I need to get to bed, so that I can try to get some sleep, as I have about a 2 hr drive once I arrive in Boston!!  So I won't get to bed until at least 3 am East Coast time.  So....here I go!!  Till next time...

Aloha My Friends!  :)

I'm Going On A Surprise Vacation!!

This is Kelly, one of my two Best Friends in all the world!!  I've known Kelly for about 33 years!!  I'll be there soon Kelly!!  LOL

Hey Ya'll,

Well, if you haven't figured it out yet, I am on my way to visit my Best Friend Kelly on Tuesday!!  Walt surprised me with this trip to see Kelly.  How they managed to keep it from me, I don't know!!  But I am so excited to get to see Kelly again!  It has been since October 2009 since I saw her last.  She lives in New Hampshire, so we are on total opposite sides of the US!!

I get to visit her in New Hampshire for 9 nights, then the two of us will drive to Salem, MA for 2 nights!  I have always wanted to see Salem, so this is it!  And to get to explore it with my Best Friend is unbelievable!!  I just wish that my other Best Friend Nadene, had been able to make it.  She also lives on the East Coast, but about 12 hrs away by car, and she just can't swing it this time....

And my sweet Walt even booked me First Class on the Flights!!  I love First Class.

Well, there is still so much to say, but I just have too much to do to get ready for this trip....coming up in 4 days!!  So I will make it another post in the future.  Till next time....

Aloha My Friends :)

My Appointment With The Surgeon

This is a photo that I took on our last vacation to Hawaii last December.

Hey Ya'll,

Well, today Walt and I went to see my Bariatric Surgeon to discuss what kind of Surgery I should get.  And we agreed on the Bypass.  I'm afraid that the Sleeve wouldn't work for me because of the kind of eater that I am.  I need the Bypass to succeed.

I start fulfilling my pre-op requirements the first week of October, and I will have them finished by October 12th.  Walt and I want to schedule the Surgery for after Thanksgiving so that I can have one last Thanksgiving Dinner with my family and truly enjoy it.

Both of my parents are doing really bad, and we are not expecting them to be here next year for the Holidays.  My Dad is still battling Lung Cancer, and my Mom is battling many different illnesses.  Some of which are Heart Disease, Diabetes, COPD, Liver Disease, etc, etc, etc.  Not to mention that she is in such constant pain, and for so long (YEARS), that I don't know how she has kept from committing Suicide.  It will kill me to lose her, but at the same time, it will be a relief knowing that she is no longer in pain.  Just thinking about it, is making me cry!

So we want to spend Thanksgiving with my family, then have the Surgery.  Luckily that works for the Surgeon too, as he said that he would be in Mexico on vacation over Thanksgiving, and the first week in December is perfect!  So we are shooting for that week!

Well, it is getting late, and I need to start getting ready for bed, or I won't get to bed before 4 am!!  By starting now, I should be in bed by 2:30-3 am...which is late enough.  Oh and I have exciting news, but I will wait until the next post to tell you!!  Till next time....

Aloha My Friends  :)

It Appears To Be A Go!! :)

Hey Ya'll,

Well, I got an e-mail from my Patient Advocate at the Surgeon's Office on Friday, saying that my Insurance said that my Surgery will be covered, so long as I follow the Surgeon's Pre Op schedule of classes, etc.  Which I was totally expecting to have to do anyway!  But I am not going to celebrate just yet...I want to call my Insurance Co on Monday, or Tuesday (whichever day they open this week) and verify that it is a go.

Actually, I expect that the Insurance Co just told them that my Surgery will be covered under these circumstances.  Because the Surgeon's Office still has to send off for the "official" Surgery approval, once all the steps have been completed!  So saying this, it is highly doubtful that I will actually get a real answer from them regarding approval.  As they do not want to promise something, before I have gone through the steps first.

I'm just hoping to get some sort of feeling that it is true, since I will be having to put out money towards the Psych and Nutritionist appointments.  I am not sure if they will be covered by my Insurance Company.  In fact, as I remember, I don't think that they were covered when I went through these steps for the Lap Band....Which is fine, so long as I get the Surgery approved!!  I just would hate to put out hundreds of dollars, then be told that they will not cover the Surgery!!

So now I am on a fast track to try to get everything accomplished as quickly as possible!  I want to get the Surgery approved, and accomplished sometime between Thanksgiving and New Years Eve!!  But preferably not too long after Christmas at the latest, as you never know what could come up to have to cancel and reschedule the Surgery!!  Like the Surgeon or myself getting sick....

Anyway, I am happy!!  I am on my way to the rest of my life.  And although I am not looking forward to having such an extreme Surgery done, I am realistic enough to know that this is the only way that will keep me from ending up being 300-400 lbs.  I have many family members who are extremely obese, and I can see myself ending up this way too.  I am already back to having a BMI of 38.2!!  And I was down to being considered just a little overweight....(sigh)

Anyway, on Friday, Walt and I went to Sparks for their annual Best In The West Nugget Rib Cook-Off.  Walt was in seventh heaven!!  I couldn't even tell you how many Food Booths there was!!  With Barbecue from all over the Country.  Of the ones that we tried this year, my favorite was Porky 'N Beans BBQ.  I loved their Pulled Pork, it was so juicy and tender, and their sauce was fantastic!  I wanted to try their Baked Beans, and although they were good, they weren't what I expected them to be.  Walt had them substitute their Cole Slaw for Collard Greens, and he said that they were the best that he has ever eaten!!  And the Corn Bread was divine!!  It was so good, that you didn't even have to put Butter on it!!  So I am glad that I got to eat it this year.  Last year, I had the Lap Band, and I was barely able to eat anything, and well....next year, I will have the Bypass, and will be in the same boat as I was last year!!  (sigh)

I am glad that we took my Walker.  We ended up having to park about 2 blocks away from the Festivities, and to tell the truth, I was hurting as soon as I got out of the car and started to walk!!  But we went anyway, and it was pretty warm outside.  Why do these great Festivals always have to be in the Summer????  I was so glad that Walt was very understanding.  He knows how much it hurts me to walk very far.  So whenever I asked to stop and sit down, he just smiled and said ok!  And I think that I stopped at just about every shade spot I could find....Days like that really makes me realize how lucky I am!  Walt is very understanding of my problems.

Well, I better go for now, I have so much left to do!!  I will post when I have some more to share....till next time....

Step One....Seminar!

Dr Kozar, my Surgeon.  He did my Lap Band and Lap Band removal as well!!

Hey Ya'll,

Well this will be another short post.  As I said earlier, so much has been happening, but right now I just don't have the time to tell it yet...maybe after the weekend!

But I did want to say that I attended our local Bariatric Seminar tonight.  As you know, this is the first step in a long list of steps that we have to complete in order to get Bariatric/Bypass Surgery approved!

Yes, I did say Bypass.  I was fairly certain that I would be having the Bypass, but I wanted to attend the Seminar and hear what the Surgeon had to say about the Sleeve versus the Bypass.  And he made it clear that for the type of eater that I am (grazer, and major sweet eater), the Bypass is the only choice that will help me.  I do not have the will power that I once had, so I need the extra help the Bypass will provide.  And yes, I do realize that the Bypass will not do it all for me....I still have to change my eating habits or it is all for naught!!

But I have made the decision that I am ready to do this....And now that I have made it, I just want to do it and get it over with!!!  LOL  So tonight was the first step of many.  Luckily for me, I do not have to go through any pre Surgery weight loss classes, or months of attempted weight loss.  So long as I qualify, I just need to complete the pre Surgery requirements laid forth by the Surgeon!  And luckily for me, there are only a couple of changes in their pre Surgery requirements since my Lap Band.  This time I have to get a Letter Of Support from my PCP Doctor, as well as a copy of my Medical Records for the past year.  Otherwise, everything seems to be the same....so far!!

At first, I was concerned that I wouldn't qualify for the 2nd Bariatric Surgery.  But it is not listed in my Insurance that I can only have one in a lifetime.  Plus, the fact that I had to have the Lap Band removed due to complications with it.  So in essence, this is really a revision Surgery!  So I am hopeful, and I fully believe that I will be able to have the steps completed, and the Surgery scheduled before the end of the year.

Interestingly, the Surgeon said that the speed of loss, and amount of weight loss, is about the same for the Sleeve as for the Bypass.  But because the Sleeve won't inhibit the eating habits of a Sugaraholic....then the Bypass is the only one for me!  Plus, he said that if you have problems with Acid Reflux, the Sleeve will not help, in fact, he said that it would only make it worse!  Whereas, the Bypass will end the Acid Reflux problem immediately!  So....Bypass it is!  Well, I need to go for now, till next time....

Sleeve or Bypass????

Hey Ya'll,

I'm sorry that it has been so long since I last posted.  But so much has been happening!!  Both good, and scary.  More on that later....This will be a really short post.  I just wanted to say that I am still here, and that I am considering a major change in my weight loss attempts.  I have been thinking long and hard, and I am positive that I will be having either the Sleeve or Bypass done by the end of the year if all goes as planned!!

So calling all Sleeve and Bypass bloggers.  If you could give me your story and recommendation, I would greatly appreciate it!!  I have an appointment with my Bariatric Surgeon on Sept 12th to discuss my options and determine what I will have.  So if I could hear from you asap, I would be forever thankful!!

I will go for now, but I will be posting again real soon!!  Till next time....

Hey Ya'll,

Well, I have been a bad girl again!  It has been so long since I have made a post.  But so much has been happening that I just haven't had the time.  However, I do want to make this quick post to let you know that I am planning on changing my Blog.  I feel that it is no longer appropriate to call myself the Hawaii Bound Bandster anymore, since I no longer have the Band!  So I am planning on making a new Blog that is all about my life....Basically what I have been posting about for some time now anyway.  Just under a different Blog address and name!  When I do, I will post a link to my new Blog here on my current site.  I am hopeful that at least some of you will want to continue to follow me and  my everyday life, such as it is! LOL

The photo above shows my Hand and how my pinkie Finger has changed.  I now have Osteoarthritis in my Hands, and this is the most that I can straighten my Finger out now, and I can feel other Fingers starting to develop the Nodes too.  There is a Node at the top of the Pinkie joint which is causing it to bend like it does, and apparently there isn't anything that can be done about it.  I just hope that it doesn't get so bad that I cannot Paint or crochet anymore!  So saying this....I will leave for now.  I will start my new Blog soon!!  I promise!!

Aloha My Friends....  :)

Update On New Car

Hey Ya'll,

Just a quick note to advise/update of information given in prior post.  Some of my friends that read my blog reminded me of this.  Those of you that have been reading my blog for a long time, may remember that we went through a Bankruptcy 2 years ago, and lost our home and my car.  So this is the reason that I am so excited.  I was terrified that they would not consider 2 years a long enough time to allow us to take out a loan or do a lease on a new vehicle.

And since I am no longer allowed to ride the Bike, I have had to rely on driving Walt's big Truck.  Well, I am only 5'3", and even with the side step, I still have to hoist myself up into it!  So it is not the easiest or most comfortable vehicle for me to try to drive.  Which is why I am so happy to have something smaller, that I can drive easier!  But I will still need to have side steps put on my car too!!

And yes, Caroline (Lonicera), it is a big car!  We originally were going to purchase me another CR-V, but when Walt saw the Pilot, that was what he wanted!  But to tell you the truth, although I loved my CR-V, the Pilot is more comfortable to ride in.  So Pilot it is!!  Oh, and the photo that I posted in my last post is not Walt, or our car....it was just a photo that I pulled from the Honda website to give an idea of what it looks like to those that have not seen one.  So obviously, the Boat is not ours either!!  LOL  Although Walt wishes it were.... :)

So, I better go for now, I need to get going so I can accomplish all my running around, and get all my laundry done!

Till next time....

Aloha My Friends :)

Happy 4th Of July!! And New Car!!

Hey Ya'll,

Well, it has been a while since I last posted, and I am still doing great following the Surgery to remove my Lap Band.  I go in on Friday morning for my 2 week checkup, and I fully anticipate him telling me that all is great, and I am released to do whatever!!  I know that Walt can't wait....LOL  Next week I begin my 4 wk Physical Therapy sessions for my lower Back.  We will see if the Physical Therapy helps, if not, then we will do the Lumbar MRI to determine if I need Back Surgery too.

Anyhoo, I hope that ya'll had a great day today!  Barbeques, swimming, Fireworks, etc.  I am sitting here at my desk, and I can literally hear the Fireworks being shot off at a nearby Casino in town!  I just wish that I could see them....Unfortunately, there is a large row of trees that blocks my view of the sky in the direction of the Fireworks.

Oh well, I can't complain....we bought me a new car today!!  Well....to be precise, we leased a new car today!  We settled on a 3 yr lease, as Walt is still hopeful that he will get a job out of the Country, like Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, etc, etc, etc.  He probably would even consider the Middle East if the job was right.  So this way, if this should come to fruition, then we wouldn't have to worry about what to do with the car.  So at the end of 3 yrs, we will decide whether or not to keep the car and purchase it, or turn it in.

Oh, I guess you might like to know what we ended up buying???  We bought a Honda Pilot EX-L.  We were originally going to purchase the Pilot Touring model, but we decided that we could save at lease $4000 by taking the EX-L.  The main difference in the two models, is the Touring has the Rear Seat Entertainment System (which we would never use/we only used the one in my Expedition once!), and the Navigation System.  Which we really didn't need either.  So we feel that we got a great deal.  Oh and the color is a Medium Charcoal Gray!  Not my first choice, but it was my 2nd choice.  And we didn't want to wait to have to special order one!

So, we spent about 5 hours at the Dealership today, then came home and Walt grilled us a great Steak, with Corn on the Cob!  Delicious!  Well, it has been a long day, and tomorrow I have to return a couple of items to the store, and purchase my new car a new window shade, then come home and do about 10 loads of laundry!  Till next time....

Aloha My Friends!!  :)

All Is Well! I'm Home...

A photo of Dr Kozar with me the day I actually had my Lap Band Surgery back in 2009!

Hey Ya'll,

Well, yesterday I went in for my Surgery and it went very well.  My Surgeon decided not to keep me overnight, as he said that the new protocol is not to stay overnight for Central Sleep Apnea problems unless something during or shortly after Surgery shows a need for it.  So my Surgery started about 8:30 and I left the Hospital at about 2:30.

As with my original Lap Band Surgery, I have had no gas pains!!  And this time, I have had very little pain at all!  Just a little at the Incision where the Port had been.  And again, I have 5 Incisions.  Dr Kozar told Walt after he finished my Surgery, that a lot of my Stomach had slipped up into the upper pouch.  Which makes me feel that my observation that I may have Slipped some more, was true.  I felt this way, because in the last few weeks, I felt like I was much tighter again!  Even though the fluid was removed.  So I am glad that I went through with having the Lap Band removed.  He also told Walt that in about a year, my Stomach would look almost like nothing had been done to it, assuming I don't have another Gastric Surgery before that!!

When Dr Kozar stopped by my room before we went into Surgery, he again asked me if I was sure that I wanted the Band to just be removed, and not be revised to a Bypass.  We told him that at this time, we just wanted the Band removed, and that possibly in the future, I may decide on the Sleeve.

I am trying to decide if I want to continue the way I am going or stop myself!!  I have already gained back most of what I lost since I dropped to my lowest weight in years, last year!  Walt has promised me that he will no longer try to push me to lose weight, but he wants me to be healthy.  So I have to decide if I want to continue the way I am going, and more than likely gain to be even more than I was at my previous high, or go back in for a different type of Gastric Surgery.  And if so, whether it would be the Bypass that Dr Kozar prefers for me to undergo, or the Sleeve.  To me both are pretty radical, which is why I have a lot of soul searching to do!!  I really don't want to continue to get so big that I can't do anything, but I hate to alter my body to do it!!  To be continued.

I will get off for now, and I will keep you posted.  Till the next time....

Surgery Day Tomorrow Morning!!

Dr Kozar my Surgeon, he is also the original Surgeon that placed my Lap Band.

Hey Ya'll,

Well, I am getting ready to go to bed (yes, I will be taking a sleeping pill!!).  LOL  I have to get up at 4:30 am in order to be at the Hospital by 6:30 am, which is my check in time.  My Surgery is scheduled for either 8 am or 8:30 am.  I have seen it written both ways.  I guess it doesn't matter, I will be out anyway!!

So to refresh your memory.  I am having my Lap Band removed.  My Band slipped a while back and just before I was to go into the Hospital to have it removed, we found out that my Neck was REALLY bad, and needed immediate Surgery, so we had to postpone the Band removal.  During this time, I feel as if the Band slipped some more, as I began having more symptoms of tightness and problems eating again.  So it felt like the Band slipped more causing it to tighten again, even though almost all of the fluid has been removed!!

So I am glad to have it removed.  My Surgeon wanted to revise me to a Bypass.  But at this time, I am not ready to have my insides rearranged!!  LOL  Who knows, if I continue on the way I have been, I may need it in order to cure me of Diabetes.  Knock on wood, that this doesn't happen!  So far I have dodged the Diabetes bullet, which is surprising since a lot of my family is Diabetic!  I have lost 2 Cousins to Diabetes (one was totally Blind, the other lost both her Legs and was on a double Transplant list for Kidney/Pancreas (or was it Kidney/Liver?))....Anyway, my Mom, Brother, Aunt, etc, etc, etc has Diabetes.

So hopefully I will be posting sooner rather than later, to let you know that I am home and aok!  We won't know until tomorrow whether or not I will be staying overnight in the Hospital.  They usually do keep me, because of my Central Sleep Apnea.  But who knows, this may be the one time they don't!  So think of me tomorrow, and please send good healing thoughts.

I'm Still Alive Getting Ready For Surgery!!!

Hey Ya'll,

Well it's been 2 months since I made a "real" post!!  All I can say is that we have been crazy busy!  I will attempt to catch you up on whats been happening, while leaving out some stuff so as to not post a book...(oops, sorry, it happened anyway!!)

So....What do you think about my new Blog Layout???  I like to change it with the Seasons, so this one is obviously for Summer!!  LOL  Unfortunately, when I redo the Layout, a lot of the Blogs that I Follow gets dropped!!  So if you look on the right hand side....all the way down under the Buttons and Awards, under the heading of: Blog's I'm Following.  If you feel that your Blog should be there, and it isn't, then please let me know, and I will add it in!!  :)

I got my Cervical Collar off at 6 weeks after Surgery!!  I was really dreading having to wear it, but really, once I got past 2 weeks, suddenly it loosened up and I could bear it!  I am guessing it was because the swelling in my Neck went down.  So the only time it was difficult was when I was trying to sleep in it.  But even that got much easier.  But let me tell you, I am really grateful that I didn't have to wear it during the Summer!!

Now that I am 3 months out from Spinal Surgery, I am going through with the Lap Band Removal Surgery.  In fact....I am having it removed next week on Tuesday!!  So my Surgery will be on the 26th.  The reason that I am having it now instead of the possible Lower Back Surgery first, is because my Insurance Company is trying to slow down the procedure, hoping that I will be delayed long enough to not be able to have the Surgery until next year.  This is because I am maxed out, for out of pocket Medical for the year!!  So anything else I have done, is covered 100%!!!

So when my Neurosurgeon sent in the request to have my Lumbar MRI approved, they declined it saying they want me to undergo Physical Therapy first to see if it would help me.  Except for the very first MRI for my Back done many years ago, I have never been denied approval for any MRI's!!  And I have had at least 4 of them through the years just for the Lower Spine.  So now all of a sudden they want Physical Therapy!  And it won't help me...it never has...it always makes me hurt worse!!

So, I have to undergo Physical Therapy for at least a few sessions.  Or however long it takes for me to reach the point of not being able to bear it anymore.  Then the Dr's Office will tell the Insurance Co that the Physical Therapy isn't helping, and in fact, it is making me hurt worse.  Then they will request the MRI again!!

So since the process of going through the Physical Therapy, getting a new approval for the MRI, then waiting to get an appointment with the Neurosurgeon, will take somewhere between 1-2 months, then another 3 weeks for a Surgery date (assuming the MRI shows that I do have a problem that Surgery will help), we figure that I can slip this Surgery in between!!

So....I am having the Lap Band removed next Tuesday, and 2 weeks after, I should be released to have the Physical Therapy.  Especially since the Physical Therapy should be light exercises for the Lower Back.  If all goes well, and the MRI shows that I do have something that can be corrected by Surgery, then I should be able to have it done before the end of the year.  Possibly as soon as late September to early October.

And Walt has been undergoing Tests too!  After Walt underwent a Lumbar MRI, and our Neurosurgeon read it, he had Walt go in for an appointment.  At first he wasn't sure if Walt needed Surgery.  But during his Neurological exam, he noticed that Walt was having issues with his Neck as well.  So he decided to have Walt undergo a Cervical MRI as well as an EMG for both the upper and lower extremities before he makes his determination.  We go in tomorrow to find out the results of all the Tests and what, if anything Dr Lynch wants to do.  So who knows....Walt could be on his way to Neck and or Back Surgery too!!

And because of all of my Spinal issues, Walt has decided to sell the Motorcycle.  He won't even let me get on the Bike anymore!!  So once he sells the Bike and Trike Wheels (we have already sold the Bike Trailer), we will be purchasing me a new Vehicle to drive.  Hopefully really soon....(Walt (hint, hint)), we will buy it!!  So right now I am in the extensive research period.  Trying to decide which make and model to buy.

Another thing that I am researching is my Ancestry.  We have been told that my Great Grandmother was a full blooded American Indian (I believe she was Choctaw), and my Great Grandfather was a Sheriff during the days of the Wild West and Gunslingers.  In fact, he had the often depicted in Western movies....shootout with a bad guy in the main street.  They shot each other and both died!  This was in Oklahoma.  So I am eager to research this as well as the rest of my family history.

And get this....Walt just signed a new 1 year contract for work!!  He almost didn't sign it as he wanted an increase in pay as well as a raise in position.  Well, they had no problem giving him the raise in position, but they only gave him a smaller raise in pay.  But after careful consideration, Walt decided to accept it.  So we will be staying in the Northern Nevada area for at least another year.

Walt is so excited and proud of his son Russ.  Russ has decided after careful deliberation to attend the College that Walt attended many years ago, Santa Barbara!  So I believe Russ begins in September, because they are on the quarter system.  He has Orientation in August, so Carolyn, Walt and I will be flying down with Russ to check out the School etc.  Walt and I are really looking forward to it.  While down there, Walt and I are thinking about driving to Solvang.  I was there briefly when I was a teenager and always wanted to check it out again.  Walt says that they have the best Pea Soup, of which I won't be partaking!!  LOL  I told him that I would taste it.  I tasted it years ago and wasn't impressed.

Now....about my home Office.  Walt has been telling me ever since we moved into the RV, that he was going to setup an Office for me that would be totally inside the slide out.  I just couldn't believe that it could be done, since I would have to have room for the Desk as well as my Chair, among other things!!  Well, he finally did it.  We found some inexpensive narrow Desks at IKEA that works!  We drove down to Sacramento last weekend to purchase them and bring them back.  We could have ordered them online, but it would have cost us over $90 just for the shipping!!

So we have the Desks setup in an L Shape with a space for a Bookcase next to it.  This leaves me room to have my new Office Chair sitting on the inside of the Slide.  In order to keep it from falling off the slide floor (which is about 2 inches higher than the regular RV floor), Walt attached a board (which he will be replacing with a better option later) to the slide to make the slide floor a bit wider so the Chair won't fall off onto the RV floor, with me on it!!  LOL

We still have some stuff to do with my Office before it is finished, like adding more storage bins on the walls, etc.  But let me tell you, I wish that we had done this sooner!!  Walt, I am sorry that I doubted you!!  This setup is so much better.  I actually have room now.  And more than one person can be in my Office without touching each other.  LOL

Now what I am about to tell you, I am still fuming about....I had some talks with my daughter Christa last month about my ex-husband (not Christa's father).  He really had me fooled.  These talks began when she told me that she always felt that he hated her!!!  He always treated Christa fine when I was around.  But apparently whenever I was at work and he was home with her.  He always told called her names and told her to get lost, so she always just hid out in her bedroom!  He even called her names in front of most of his friends.  I was so pissed when I found this out, that I wanted to go to him and kick his A**!!  And I am not a violent person, but you don't mess with our kids!!

What really pisses me off, is that he used me to get his permanent Residency for the US.  You see, he is from Jordan.  So he sweet talked me and convinced me to marry him, knowing that it would be easier to get his Residency this way.  And apparently I fell for it.  I am just so glad that I made the decision to divorce him back in 1989!

He told me that he was missing his family and wanted to go back.  He wasn't sure that he would come back to the States (even though he had a half ownership in a Liquor Store).  There was no way in He** that I was going to take my daughter and go there.  I knew all the horror stories of how women are treated once in the Middle East.  Once there, I would have no rights, and he would even have say over Christa!!  So I told him that if he was going there, to give me a divorce.

I WILL be contacting him, even if only by letter to give him a piece of my mind!!  If I had known how he was treating her then, I would have divorced him sooner, and contacted the Federal Government to see if there was something that I could do to get his Residency revoked!!  Christa was between the ages of 12 and 16 when we were married.  Christa when you read this, I am really sorry that you had to live with someone like him!!

And last but certainly not least, an update on my parents.

My Dad went through his Radiation treatments for Lung Cancer and the Dr's says that everything is looking good.  He will be starting Chemotherapy soon.  And hopefully the Cancer will be gone!!

As for my Mom, she is still in constant pain.  And to see her try to walk is just painful.  She is now almost doubled over.  The Dr's tried to tell her 25 yrs ago to have Back Surgery.  They told her that if she didn't, she would end up in so much pain, and unable to stand up and walk.  As her Spine would stop being able to support her own weight.  Well, she has been at that point for some time now, but somehow, she keeps trying.

About 2 months ago, shortly after my last "real" post, we thought we were going to lose her.  She had went in for her Infusion Therapy for her Paget's Disease of the Bone.  The day after, she had such a strong reaction, that we didn't know what was wrong.  But she had lost all control of her Bowels and Bladder, not to mention that she wasn't able to walk!!  So my Dad, Brother and myself all tried to convince her to go into the Hospital.  To no avail.  Luckily, my when my Sister got off work and saw what shape she was in....basically didn't give my Mom a choice!!  She cleaned my Mom up and called 911.  So she was taken by Ambulance to the Hospital.

Walt was going to drive me down to California.  But my Nieces Son, who my parents are raising, had the Chicken Pox at the time.  I wasn't even allowed to get my Teeth cleaned until at least 3 months after Spinal Surgery, so I knew the Neurosurgeon wouldn't want me to be exposed to Chicken Pox.  I am not positive whether or not I had them.  I remember having the Mumps and Measles, but not the Chicken Pox.

So my gut instinct told me to wait a short time before driving to California.  Luckily my Sister called and told me that my Mom was doing much better and would be released from the Hospital.  My Mom didn't want me to go down and get exposed.  So we didn't go.  But we did see them last weekend.  And as usual, they tried to put their best foot forward, so we don't worry about them.

Well, now that I HAVE written a book, I better go for now, I have been writing this thing all day it seems!!  Till next time....
