All Is Well! I'm Home...

A photo of Dr Kozar with me the day I actually had my Lap Band Surgery back in 2009!

Hey Ya'll,

Well, yesterday I went in for my Surgery and it went very well.  My Surgeon decided not to keep me overnight, as he said that the new protocol is not to stay overnight for Central Sleep Apnea problems unless something during or shortly after Surgery shows a need for it.  So my Surgery started about 8:30 and I left the Hospital at about 2:30.

As with my original Lap Band Surgery, I have had no gas pains!!  And this time, I have had very little pain at all!  Just a little at the Incision where the Port had been.  And again, I have 5 Incisions.  Dr Kozar told Walt after he finished my Surgery, that a lot of my Stomach had slipped up into the upper pouch.  Which makes me feel that my observation that I may have Slipped some more, was true.  I felt this way, because in the last few weeks, I felt like I was much tighter again!  Even though the fluid was removed.  So I am glad that I went through with having the Lap Band removed.  He also told Walt that in about a year, my Stomach would look almost like nothing had been done to it, assuming I don't have another Gastric Surgery before that!!

When Dr Kozar stopped by my room before we went into Surgery, he again asked me if I was sure that I wanted the Band to just be removed, and not be revised to a Bypass.  We told him that at this time, we just wanted the Band removed, and that possibly in the future, I may decide on the Sleeve.

I am trying to decide if I want to continue the way I am going or stop myself!!  I have already gained back most of what I lost since I dropped to my lowest weight in years, last year!  Walt has promised me that he will no longer try to push me to lose weight, but he wants me to be healthy.  So I have to decide if I want to continue the way I am going, and more than likely gain to be even more than I was at my previous high, or go back in for a different type of Gastric Surgery.  And if so, whether it would be the Bypass that Dr Kozar prefers for me to undergo, or the Sleeve.  To me both are pretty radical, which is why I have a lot of soul searching to do!!  I really don't want to continue to get so big that I can't do anything, but I hate to alter my body to do it!!  To be continued.

I will get off for now, and I will keep you posted.  Till the next time....

Aloha My Friends  :)

I am having my band removed and revised to the bypass. The sleeve scares me too much since the stomach is cut vertically so there is alot bigger area to leak or get infected. Since the Bypass has been around for a long time... I feel like it's been perfected too, so that's what I decided to go with. My band helped me lose alot of weight and learn to eat right and be more active... now the bypass will help me get the rest of the way there.. Good Recovery to you!

DIZneDiVa - I hear you! I am sorry that you are having to revise as well. And I hear you on your concerns about the Sleeve, but my main concern with it is that is that it is permanent!! Once the Stomach is cut off, that is it!! Which is why I am really thinking long and hard about it!

Sarah G - Thanks!! So far it has been a real easy recovery!

Caroline - Thanks, it is nice to be back! I will keep you updated on my family as well!

Great post! I hope everything went well! One thing I’ve found to be extremely helpful and useful as a supplement to my current diet/exercise plan is Fullbar (www.fullbar.com). Not only do their products help you lose weight, they also help you maintain your weight loss.

Debi, I missed this somehow, and am just now catching up. I'm sorry the band had to go but that is wonderful that your stomach will be normal looking again. I understand the hesitation to do more surgery as I'm sure this has been quite a journey already. Hugs to you and hope that no matter what road you decide to take that you are happy!

P.S. - The person who posted about fullbar...that is my bariatric dr. who created that! Crazy, huh? It definitely is not for WLS peeps but it's great for people with regular stomachs.
